- Amateur photography that wants to go pro
- Hobbyist that enjoys photography, but started getting paid
- Hobbyist that never wants to get paid
- Pro photographer - part time
- Pro photographer - full time
Where are you and what are your intentions? Is photography your only thing? Full steam ahead, it's what you do and all you do. When do you plan to stop/retire? Can you? Have you set aside retirement funds? A cushion? Have you been paying yourself little by little, or does all of your revenue go to expenses or back into the business?
You're an amateur that wants you go pro. Are you knowledgeable about business? Insurances? Taxes? Do you plan to have employees? Contract services? Are you a solo act or will you have a financial adviser and marketer?
Maybe you're a hobbyist. But now you're getting requests. Do you charge, or do it because you love it? Maybe you don't want to work for others. How important is keeping up with that latest equipment if you're not getting paid to produce a certain product?
You're a part-time pro photographer. How much of your full-time income do you invest in your photography, or is all business in and out and you full time covers bills and lifestyle?
I've been in a number of these positions. A lot of recent clients and supporters know that I recently took the LSAT and plan to attend law school. So now, where does my photography go? Well right now, it's going to the next level. So follow.
But where are you? I'm curious.
What is your "next level" or goal? Have you even thought of a purpose or are you just doing because its enjoyable? Maybe a phase or a fad to you? Cause it's trendy and fun?
